Nala Kun — Contemporary Artist in San Francisco
Nala Kun (born 1985; Tyumen, Russia) is a Russian-born American artist best known for her mesmerizing spiral brush strokes

in oil that elucidate her elegant, and at times, sexually taboo vision onto canvas. Long before she arrived in San Francisco, California; where she currently pursues her passion, Nala discovered her earliest aesthetic impulses in the meticulous embroidery and woven tapestries

of her grandmother. It was her grandmother’s devotion to handicraft that instilled in Kun a lifelong respect for precision and rhythm, which inspired her drive for self-enlightenment within her craft.
Before devoting herself entirely to art, Kun earned a degree in advertising and marketing from Tyumen State University in Russia

. Upon completion of her education, she successfully led two event production companies in her home country for over a decade. It wasn’t until the age of twenty-eight that she made the radical decision to follow her original calling and transition to her life as a professional

painter.
Over the past thirteen years, Kun has developed and patented a distinctive spiral technique known as

TwiddleART . She has perfected the practice of transforming spontaneous mark-making into an act of meditative control by channeling chaos into lyrical order. After an extended period of formal research confirmed the originality of her approach, she set out across Siberia

to showcase her work, garnering both national and international recognition.
Her artistic journey later brought her to the United States

, where she was granted the O1 visa for extraordinary ability in the arts. Since then, Kun has continued to exhibit in solo and group shows

, expanding her collector base across Europe and North America.
Now based in San Francisco, a city she describes as “a festival of fog, ambition, and cultural convergence,” Kun creates vivid spiral compositions in high-contrast

oils. Her paintings unite the disciplined sensitivity of her Siberian origins with the expressive vitality

of her adopted home which aims to reveal a synthesis of precision, intuition, contemplation and movement.
